Born and raised in eastern Kentucky, I am a mother of two and happily married to my best friend for over thirteen years.
I am a licensed clinical social worker committed to helping people address their mental and behavioral health struggles. I hold a doctorate in clinical social work from the University of Kentucky. I have fifteen years of experience in a social work mental health setting. Over the years I have held many positions as I climbed the ladder progressing through my educational career. During that time, I acquired a variety of knowledge in mental and behavioral health therapy. My broad range of experience has heightened my knowledge of depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and self-harming behaviors, among many others. I have focused the past thirteen years on fostering a better understanding of trauma, especially within the first responder community. Over the past six years, I discovered an inadvertent passion for working in addiction recovery as well.
There is a stigma present within Appalachia regarding mental and behavioral health. That stigma doubles for the first responder population and triples for the law enforcement profession. Police suicide is on the rise and someone has to take a stand. I developed NewWay Health Trauma Response Care to advocate for those fearful to seek help. I will be providing mental and behavioral health counseling, however, I want this to be more than therapy. I want to promote knowledge surrounding the importance of prevention and treatment to local first responder departments. I want to help families understand trauma and make support available. I hope to have peer groups up and running fairly soon as well as a spouse support group.
Training and education opportunities will be available very soon! I hope to expand in the near future and offer a brick-and-mortar location. Until then, I enjoy providing telehealth counseling options because it allows clients to utilize their comfort zone without limiting their familial and occupational responsibilities. It provides comfort and confidentiality on a different level.
"No one should have to fear seeking help, and treatment should never hinder healing or recovery." -Dr. B
